If they did it of their own free will with no coaxing or pressure from managment or the station; then why is it wrong?
By this same logic it's wrong for networks to allow their people into the field during any armed conflict.
So the employers of Edward R Murrow, Andy Rooney, and Ernie Pyle were all wrong?
Just pointing out the flaw in your logic.

Interesting approach to the situation Trahald. In my thought or opinion, the newsteam could have reported the story as effectively from a half mile away as they did by trying to report the story from inside of the flames. It's been awhile since I have worked near national media but I begin media has been instructed to bring the story to life in 11 seconds of video or less. The rewards are seconday for these cardholders.  Good luck go you. :?

First, kudos to boring for posting a well thought out response. It really is too bad we can't have more of these intellectual discussions here on the BB.

I can certainly see your point, and to a degree I tend to identify with it. However, in most cases (especially in these mid to smaller markets), it is up to the reporter and photographer in the field to decide how best to cover the story. It would then be up to the station management to decide how best to handle their actions, whether to reprimand or congratulate them.

my final thought on the 11 news crew story, David Nancarrow did some reporting in a country in a war conflict for KKTV. If he did this stupid act on his own, well, there's no excuse for not thinking

CNN is showing tape of a TV Reporter in Georgia (old USSR) who was shot and struck in the forearm while doing a live report.

Makes driving Powers seem tame, doesn't it?

How do we fix stupidity? Yes, it too is a story to be covered but did they take the time to have the proper gear on or were they dressed for on-air? I wish I could get cnn (i have msnbc and fox)

Fearless leader, get and post the video on sight and open this for discussion. :x

Well, she maintained her composure quite well. Of course, as I had no idea what she was saying, it could very well have been an endless string of obscenities...

Agreed. She kept her head. I admire that.
I'll bet it hurt like hell.
